Backtalk From My Easy Chair
It's you again? I am surprised To see you back so soon. You said you had so much to do And it is barely noon. "Pies don't bake themselves," I've heard you say, "And brooms don't groom a room. Without a human hand to guide, No duties they'll assume." I sit patiently year after year, Unassuming and admired, Just waiting to engulf your rear When you are truly tired. You may think I am inanimate, Unaware of my own charms, But I know how much you're longing Just to fall into my arms. When you are truly weary And have come to me for rest, I'll welcome you, but until then You haven't passed the test. So get thee up now, grab that vac. Shut the TV off and run. I'll wait right here to ease your back When all your chores are done. By: Joyce 11/21/09 Written for Matt's "Speak Chair Speak contest.
