Valentine Dial
Sawdust depths of an ad-man's head Shines drab light like the dawn of the dead, Glory of love cast as media tool, Cash cow dreams in the mind of a fool. Flogging the donkey, whipping away, Cardboard chocolates and plastic bouquet, Missives of tack fired poison darts, Spiking the targets of lonely hearts. Cold-cocked commodities, driven hard sell, Heavenly angels in corporate hell, Ideals of emotion air-brushed and clean, Cynical substance, sweet saccharine. Think for yourselves, crack a wry smile, Turn off the box with the Valentine dial, Take out the trash, stand in the sun, Reflect on the beauty of loving someone. Candy, cards and flowers are fine, As are baubles and champagne and red, red wine, Yet the beauty of love is eternally real, Being all that a heart needs to know or to feel.
