You Stood Up So I Can Walk
You stood up for us we wouldn't be where we are today if you didn't take a stand. You took care of the many generations after yours so they could live in peace without segregation. You inspired us... so many of the kids growing up today have your spirit. They want to change the world, make it a better place. There always seems like there is a whole bunch of doors in the way of our freedom. But you pulled the chains down opened the door to light and sunshine and we all walked through. Once you made your speech " I have a dream" we were all in union. From light to dark everyone was shocked with how much power you had. Black people moved when you walked. Crowds separated just like God separating the water. Heads were filled with your thoughts just like bellies on thanksgiving. You gave us hope that our kids could live without the same worries. Sometimes I wonder how the world would look if I woke up and you had never existed. A bleak existence comes to mind; a weak state in which the same cycle just kept spinning. You changed everything for us; you broadened our horizons and tripled our sunsets. You stood up so I can walk a free women today and I appreciate it.
