Sunday Morning
they invite you in like it’s sunday mass like you’re welcome, you belong, then the door slams behind you so hard it shakes your past loose. questions came fast: “why are you late?” “where have you been?” “do you even own an iron?” each one wearing a little smirk, expecting answers like they were giving out prizes for best impersonation of regret. i played dumb. real dumb. the kind of dumb that gets you out of parking tickets and family dinners. “what? me? no clue. thought this was group therapy.” and while they were busy digging for truth, it was buried under my own fingernails, i went to the kitchen and poured two cups of coffee. one was sludge with a hint of doom, the other smelled like freedom and a fresh check. guess which one i gave them? i took the cup, sat down, put my feet up on their nice table and toasted to boundaries, bullsht, and brewing your own sort of luck.
