Walkie Talkie
A chunky plastic brick held firm in hand, The walkie talkie bridging o'er the land Or just the backyard fence, a whispered plea, Connecting voices wild and running free. The crackling static, a prelude to speech, A secret language just within our reach. "Over and out," a phrase both firm and fun, Adventures planned before the day was done. The simple button pressed to send our call, A momentary silence holding all. Then voices tinny sometimes hard to hear, But carrying messages, banishing all fear. Through games of cops and robbers, spies so sly, Our walkie talkies helped our stories fly. Across the woods or down the hallway's length, They amplified our childhood spirit's strength. The batteries drained, a sudden silent end, To whispered plans, and messages we'd send. A disappointment felt, a game on hold, Until new power made the story bold. Now smartphones connect with crystal clarity, The walkie talkie holds a memory. Of simpler times and play that knew no screen, Just imagination, vibrant and keen. So let us smile remembering that pair, That filled our playtime with a joyful air. The poignant walkie talkie in its day, Helped friendships blossom in a special way. ©bfa040525
