Interview with an Angel
He wore his perfect set of wings. They were quite impressive. The angel had agreed to be interviewed under dimmer lights than he was used to, humbled himself under the wagging tongue of the media. So, angel, you have decided to remain nameless. I think you must not be Michael or Gabriel? Nevermind, Let’s begin. Who are you? Well, I am a star well lit, except on this set, but that is nothing new. My name will be revealed in time and space, but ahem, I know all about you. Well, I doubt that…should I be concerned (clears his voice) …Are those wings real? What is your blood type? Is it positive? (the audience laughs) You think that’s funny, wait until you get to… well, I’ll not spoil your eternity. (audience laughs even louder; this angel is clever) Yes…yes…very funny…if I only believed in (whispers and points upward) you-know-who. Those wings are rather large. Are they hard to navigate? They do their job quite nicely, you know, not made by human hands. Let me ask you, Tom, why do you wish you could fly? Why I’ve never told (clears his voice) anyone about that, but yes, I’d love to be an eagle and go after those little sinners down there. Hmm. Nothing is too little or big in the eyes of God. Hallelujah! So, Tom, sinners, let’s discuss… Oh! You are a hoot, angel… (he wags his finger) So, you believe in the man upstairs… Oh, Ralph…sure. He’s one of those little sinners but he’s contemplating his eternity. How about you, Tom? I already know, but in time… I know…it’ll be revealed (chuckles nervously) You know I meant “the big man.” Oh, Seth? Well, he thinks he’s good. (Exasperated) C’mon, angel, your just messing with me. God - G-O-D. Ahh, I see who you mean now. The almighty, the creator of everything… If you say so, angel. Have you met the big guy, I mean God? Have Y-O-U met him, Tom? (The audience leans in, mesmerized) Well, I see we are running out of time… Oh, quite right, Tom. I already know. (Tom yells “cut” and the angel disappears. A loud sound of huge wings and a tempest wind. An angel army of light blinds everyone) That never happened! (the interviewer storms off) (the audience breaks out in applause)
