Spring
The Meadowlarks are here in pairs, That means that Spring is in the air. The Jenny Wren flits about Trying for to find a house. The Sparrows, naughty as can be Tore hers up last year you see. The Sparrows now do know the pain The Starlings their new house did claim. There was a time the Bob Whites came I counted thirty-three, And then one day to my dismay The hunters drove them all away. But now and then it seems I hear The echoes of their call so clear. And at my feeders you can find Fuzzy Critters of all kinds. A Rabbit from a grassy patch, Sneaks in when the birds have passed. A Vole as brazen as can be, Slipped up and stole some seeds from me. The one that really made me smile, Was a Chipmunk with her brood close by. She made herself at home you see, Then planted sunflowers seeds for me. And when her chore here was through She went somewhere else to plant seeds too. I thank You God for sending me This time of year that we call Spring. Cile Beer written l998
