You Called Me Friend
I watched you from quiet corners of thought, Not to be noticed, just gently caught. In the hush between moments, I saw you smile— A glimpse, a grace, enough for a while. I never belonged to the light in your eyes, But I cherished the warmth like borrowed skies. You lived your life, bold, unaware, While I stood beside you in silent prayer. You called me "friend"—a word so light, Yet heavy to hold alone each night. I learned to listen, to let it be, To love without hope of reciprocity. No blame, no bitter lines to pen, Only a wish we could start again— Not for romance, or tangled fate, But just to walk with you, a step innate. Now time has softened what once did sting, And left me with songs I seldom sing. You were a chapter, not meant to stay, But your echo walks with me, anyway.
