Purple Dreams in Other Realms
Once upon a magical evening an enchanted fairy I happened to see dressed in a fantastical dress with two dappled wings of lace, she shone like the midnight sun; I must confess, she looked rather whimsical sitting there by a green wooden door, waiting for your lore!   Would you like to hear more about the fairy girl, whose name was Amethyst? As it happens, she resides in a faraway land, where every girl has wings. This particular evening, she stepped outside, away from her kind, but befuddled, father - to take in the flower-scented atmosphere of her planet - Elyseum, where fairy girls are as plentiful as daisies in a spring field.   Why couldn't this man, Mr. Bumblegrundle, understand? It must be said that she enjoyed her magic garden of lavenderoculus, that grew so purply under the violaceous sky. After all, it was she who flitted about sowing the seeds that grew into flowers with nectar so sweet... so sweet as to cause butterflies to get drunk and say the most outlandish things to their mates. And yet, she felt there must be a greater world, and unknown, faraway realms to get gloriously lost in.   So sat she, below the Elysian midnight sun. The midnight sun always made her musings take flight, forgetting the chores she happily attended to under the midday sun. Tonight, her spirit flew to the land of dreams, a place where dreamers and dreams mix and match in intermingling schemes.   There she espied another girl. So sad - the poor girl hadn't any wings.  Can you imagine? But you must hear the stories this wingless creature told! She bore the exotic name - Jane. The hair on her shoulders fell in jet black ringlets, and she grew up under a sky of blue. How did she get about without wings? - by her imagination.    In Jane's world, there was no midnight sun, but while there was only one sun, there was something never seen in Elyseum. It was called the moon or sometimes Luna. For Jane, Luna had the same effect as the midnight sun, and so Amethyst and Jane met in the land of dreams. Can you believe these two became fast friends, exchanging clothes, and cutting out wing holes? Do you think anyone gave a thought to poor Bumblegrundle down below, fretting over his dear missing Amethyst? Indeed not!  These two made plans to visit every world, with skies of orange, and green, and yellow, and gold, and, even in the ultraviolet, which that other winged creature, the butterfly, so adores, and that is just what they did.   And that is the story that Amethyst told Mr. Bumblegrundle, later, at the magic time, just as the midnight sun set, and the midday sun rose. Poor Mr. Bumblegrundle. That unfortunate man did not believe Amethyst, and so was deprived of knowledge of such beautiful worlds. But he seemed happy enough as he served his daughter her favorite dish, groodle pie.  Wouldn't you like a slice of hot groodle pie?
