Just Eight
She was just eight when she stood at the gate Looking at the distant sun moving with the clouds while the trees rock with the speed of the wind and heavens composed a wonderful hymn, it was the Sunday school song that was playing in her head of how the Roman Soldiers bury their dead when the battle ends. There was something special about her that no one could see and it was the way she focused when she looked at me it was though she was lost in another world and was connected to something bigger than her soul and every day she stands at the gate looking for her dad that passed away he was an army general and a man of high caliber, he was soft spoken and easy to get along with even when mutiny is rocking the ship. She never knew her dad, and that made her very sad, her mother passed away in her late teens and that too has rattled her dreams and so the gate was her only comfort and it helped her maintain her focus, she was expecting someone to come, and every day she waited under the boiling sun but her mom and dad never showed up and so destiny control her will and she could not stop thinking about them. She knew everyone in the village by their first name and they cherish her just the same, everyone had learned of the tragedy of how her dad killed her mother over one pair of sneakers but he was later gunned down on the battle field and the drama became real. It wasn’t a story that an eight years old girl would like to tell, of how her dad would have been in “Hell” if he wasn’t dead, her aunt whispers in her ear. She lives with her Aunt maize that was not a perfect woman but she was as jealous as her dad and controls the little girl’s fortune when her mother and father died under tragic circumstance. And so she makes it a habit to stand at the gate every day at eight, but little did she know what was up her sleeve nature was planning for her before Christmas Eve. That evening the moonlight was extra bright and it spreads its light from the sky into the street, while she stood at the gate waiting for her deceased parents to come, but they never come, and as she was about to leave a masked man in a speeding car drove by and took her by surprise. That was the last time she was ever seen but the secret was later revealed, she was taken to Canada to live with the travelers and her paternal grand mother Her parents were not alive but she had a wealthy and perfect life.
