January
January began with a bloody start, We lost so many youths, pure of heart. If two old men dream only of a throne, Freedom, for the people, stands alone. For centuries, we longed to be free, Grew weary of lies and false decree. Lives were lost, hopes extinguished in the fight, How many dreams faded in that night? Though the throne stood firm, with all their might, They fought to keep it, day and night. Do not pardon those who gave the call to fire, Nor praise them loudly, nor lift them higher. Torture’s long been this land's tale, But the throne’s fall, it will not fail. Sudden flames of war arose that day, At the cold black end of February’s way. No snow fell in February's icy gloom, While the whole world lay in slumber’s room. Ukraine awoke to cannons’ roar, As guns aligned and unleashed their war. Upon their neighbor, death was hurled, Invading armies stained the world. A month before, in January’s strife, We too were struck by a tyrant’s knife. Those who hail Putin with admiration, Are traitors walking within our nation. Do not pardon those who gave the call to fire, Nor praise them loudly, nor lift them higher.
