Sandra was in her final year of school, and she had a network of friends, Like the grape, starry nights of luxury, that pink, velvet moon portends. Other family didn't live very far, in warm days of color and forget me nots, Often playing with their frisky feline, against summer's mosaic backdrop. She and her fellow classmates had thesises, on many different life topics. Hers involved the long term effects of deforestation, in the foliate tropics. Pearl necklaces caught moonbeams, on the nectarine nights of neighbors; Calling with nut pies and wistful nostalgia, so much better than strangers. 'Spiral cacti' were twirling, joyous; while 'string of hearts' plants loved life; When 'begonia maculata' wore white polka dots, in a summer, lush and rife. Blistered massonia awaited a remedy, while 'lifesaver' plants saved others; And 'hottentot bread' plants fed the hungry, like sunbeams, shadow covers. Sandra went out on blue lake one day, with her best friend, Daisy Spencer, After working on her thesis, and a picnic. They fell asleep in rolling splendor! As Sandra and Daisy dreamed summer, the canoe slowly drifted in current, They waked far from where they'd started, like glittery memory, so urgent! Things had started out so perfect, up 'til the moment they had slipped away; Yet, a healthy meal and contentment, can make someone drowsy, any day. Having already glided so far in afternoon, with comparable miles to return, They rowed back to their site, wide awake. Like the moon as sunrise burns. But, squirrels had plundered Sandra's bag, and seized pages of her thesis; To nest in naked treetops come winter. Like a beautiful scene, out of focus. Sandra gazed on the chaos, despairing, like when gold sun first saw rain; But, recalling the positivity of her dream, reconstructed those pages again! The rewrite had the original's essence, although it was not word for word; Like berry day's sudden sigh in starlight, to olden songs of a mockingbird. Where would we be without dreams? They relax, energize and inspire us. Sandra did well and graduated, like the beckoning stars-a diamond crush! 'Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream.'
