As I Was Sleeping
As I was sleeping you came to me in a sad dream, a sweet and gentle vision, like fragranced flowers floating on a breeze, a dream of beauty beyond compare, a longing desire of a vision so fair. a moment of reprieve from a life of lonely despair. You spoke to me with words of comfort that soothed the pain in my heart and renewed the hope that left me so long ago, as if you allowed me your strength to borrow, as if you knew my endless sorrow, as if your caress could sooth my tomorrow. With soft spoken words you filled my vision and let me see your deepest secrets of a melancholy life, left bitter and cold, by memories of anguish and moments you've suffered, by memories and nightmares of loss that you've smothered, by memories of scars that you choose to leave covered. You've shown me your life as we spoke, you and I, in words and letters of your beautiful strife through all of the pain you have suffered in your life and now I have become but a part of your heartache and now you laugh as you watch my poor heart break and now my soul's left empty, as from my dream I ...slowly ...sadly, awake. As now I rouse from this sad beautiful allusion I see you walk away and with pain filled sorrow I can't but wonder I don't know why, as you look in my eyes, only you, my soul, can mend I don't know how you've vanish from my vision, my special friend, I don't understand why this dream had to end. 09/22/2024
