Nearly There
I step inside the gaping hole And think back, Respond to the attack From those years gone by, Create a living out of the unheard cries Surrounding the dreams Of a one thousand strong team, Pushing on into eternity Into the certainty Of where I want to be Of a life that needs the shining key To peace, away from the drama The long ending panorama Of my ever glistening past. Hoist the flag up the mast, Declare what has been achieved Declare what is perceived To be a success, To be better than the rest, But my heart still runs on empty. Always pours out plenty At the sight of their ache Slow baked In god’s lonely world That continues to hurl My never silent life, And its strife Towards that one perfect dream Of a stone blanket by the stream Enveloped in calm, A balm, To the tortured leftovers of my soul.
