Sorrows and Joy
I feel so caged, Having to see the same walls, Over and over again. I think I’m losing my mind. I wish to see the whole world, But the dream Fades away in the blink of an eye. I am so lonely, I think I’m losing my mind. I feel life fades away, Until there is nothing to feel again. My smile turns to tears, Joy turns to sorrow. I am being sucked away, By my lonely heart, Like a black hole in my mind. I put on a smile, To please the world, But I do no such thing To please myself. I wish I had never been born, Counting the days when Death will come. There is a thread of hope Which keeps me alive, Wishing for more. Is this my light? I know no such thing, But if it is, I wish for more— To turn my sorrows to joy, My tears to smiles, To see the world Like nothing before. To remove the cage That is strangling my life, To be free, And soar the skies, Like the birds I see in the day and night. I fear what the future holds, But I also look forward to it. You can call me mad— I’ve been called that all my life. I dream of what might be, Or what could have been. I want to preserve This little light of mine In a dark world, And let it shine.
