Prayers of the First Man
“Lord of Light, with no hostility Forge me as a sword of your tranquillity To the kingdom of war, let me give a dove Where there is hatred, let me give love Where there is pain, let me offer forgiveness Where there is depression, joyfulness Where there is despair, let me bring hope and sight In the empire of darkness, pure light” The First Man, Wise Friend and Warrior of Might Went down to the five kingdoms of night “Unsurpassed Divinity of Light May I have love as well as faith in the height It is in giving that I receive In sowing faith that I am graced to believe Through loving my sons, I am loved with much rife In pardoning, we are pardoned without strife In death, we are reborn to eternal life” With that, the tyrant prince was bound forever Turn to the Light, so that your fetters may sever I was inspired by meditating on the Prayer of St Francis of Assisi.
