Crisis Of Confidence
Just lay back on the couch and tell me what’s unsettling you Everything has changed and I don’t know what I’m to do Expand on that in ways that might help me to understand I used to be so popular: revered throughout the land And now? What do you feel has changed to make you less adored I feel like I’m invisible, I’m frequently ignored Are you able to elaborate, to quantify your pain People used to talk to me, at least now and again And how do you perceive that things are different here and now They used to trust my judgement but all that has gone ‘Kapow!’ I think perhaps you’re lonely, you should get out and about I tried that but it’s like nobody saw that I was out Did you try to mingle, or engage in idle chat I did but they looked through me, so it seemed that that was that So are you sure that all this change is not just in your head I was told in no uncertain terms by someone almost dead Don’t you think his mind perhaps was just a touch impaired All I know is when I touched him no one stood and stared You feel they should have stared at you, what have you not yet said There was a book about me that a lot of people read This book that you refer to, was it ever really real I do not know who wrote it, but he wrote it with some zeal And this, your true life story, does it shape the way you feel I guess it was a fantasy that held a strange appeal To feel you should be popular, you must think that you’re nice Years ago the people used to beg for my advice So what if I should say that people love you dearly still I’ll give you your score out of ten… approximately nil Well, please complete this record card with name and occupation I trust that you will keep secure my private information Your name and job description will be seen by only me In that case, they are both the same… it’s “God”… that’s Gee, O, Dee!
