THE BEFORE THAT MADE ME BETTER NOW
Tortured before by doubts tormenting me for escape flight Now, my faith keeps pressing* on through God’s compassionate might. Gripped yesterday against frustration-failure sight Now, my spirit as a warrior marches toward triumphant service-height. Downtrodden whenever carnality pursued vain selfish delight Now, my soul strives never to retreat from battle for what is right. Barren due to immaturity along fruitlessness’ blight Now, my commitment drives me to build lives against evil’s fight. Anxious because of disobedience bringing guilt-fright Now, my courage propels me to ascend following heaven’s light. Feeling worthless with slothfulness' mocking slight Now, my enthusiasm is empowered for helping with prayer-plight. Enveloped by unbelief midst skepticism bite Now, my trust in the Lord is hoisted by His grace* and love aright. Those "raw madness" incidents were blessed moments I can cite Now making me better as the functional person in God's garden site. 1 Corinthians 15:10 “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” July 18, 2024 3rd place, "The Raw Madness that Makes me Who I am" Poetry Writing Contest; Sponsored by Anoucheka Gangabissoon; judged on 11/16/2024
