Humility
Humbleness (Free Verse) Humble is a man who prefers To take fresh air in his garden Than waste his time in a pub, To be dressed in simple clothing Than in expensive high class dresses That bursts a whole in his purse. Humble is a man who wants to live In a small modest home In the shade of green trees On the fringe of a village Where since childhood he has been reared Than in a mansion devoid of memories. Humble is a man who relishes To till his own garden, Handle the soil with his own hand Fearing not to dirt his clothing, To travel by public means Instead of costly limousines. Humble is the man who has no self-conceit Nor inflated opinion of himself, Ever speaks well of others, Talks not much of his own self, Prefers to maintain silence, But holds every man in respect. Humble is a man expert in his field Who claims he has yet more to learn, Reckons his mistakes as a ground To further improve his skill, And is happy to share his knowledge Freely with one and all. Humble is a wealthy man, Enjoying plenty of health Who mixes with everyone As he knows that at time of his parting Those who are nearest to him Will bring him a helping hand. Humble is the man who is aware That life is a temporary journey, His prime mission on the earth Is to cleanse and purify his soul That after many thousands of lives He may at last reach heaven. Humbleness is not a weakness Nor a mark of inferiority, But indicates one`s inner strength And a sense of maturity; It is a balancing act of the self That speaks even through silence, Elevates the inner self And makes the difference from proud souls. ************************************************************** Humility (Rhyme) Humble is a man who prefers To be clad in simple attires Than in high brand costly clothing Worth many a thousand sterling, Relishes a stroll in the green Than idling in a bar or inn. Humble is he who wants to dwell In a humble home that is bel, With leafy trees providing shade Just on the fringe of a village To his forbears to pay homage And for deep love of its vintage. Humble and happy is a man Who can till his backyard garden, Dust his hands with crust of the soil Without fear his clothes to spoil, Opt by public means to travel Than in limousines to marvel. Humble he`s who bears no conceit Of himself, but speaks fair and sweet Of others and of every man Or embraces silence as friend, Voices not much about himself, Yet holds in esteem every self. Humble is a man with great skill Who claims he needs yet learn his field, His mistakes gladly he reckons As reason to learn his lesson, Is happy his knowledge to share As a gift without any fare. Humble is a man blessed with wealth And jubilant with shines of health Who retains his goodness with all As he knows that if down he falls, For helping hands, he can rely On those who to him are close by. Humble is the man who`s aware Of life one must ever beware As it is just transitory And earth is a purgatory To clean and purify the soul Before reaching the divine whole. Humility is not weakness, Nor it`s a stamp of shakiness, It `s a symbol of inner strength, It`s a mindful act of balance That through the sweet sign of silence From proud souls marks the difference, It`s a gem of the inner self That surely redounds on oneself.
