Sleeping - Do Not Disturb
I know I should sleep Bits of me fall as I blink slower and slower A yawn reclines my head, so it may stay resting Hands drop away mid word And I did - that was the left unfinished note Does sleep welcome us, like a caring lover Coaxing us to close our eyes and rest Confident that we will be better for it Just being in it's presence unknotting furrowed brows But who would watch over me sleeping Where I'm not safe but vulnerable As things happen around me I'm unaware of And things happen within me I can't control To reassure me when I open my eyes There is something beautiful about long gone days When I was gazed upon Opening my eyes to a presence beside me, that felt as comforting as sleep itself Rather than judged for my first words or ability to remain resting Reunited in love And in my dreams I fight my own battles Awake I keep them at bay Ever so aware that just holding my hand would soothe me Fearing my own mind if by day I'm criticised Craving the ever loving arms of restful sleep
