Supine, Looking at the Sky
Supine, Looking at the Sky Back from two days` intensive care After an open heart surgery, In a hospital bed I fare Seeking the Lord`s sublime mercy, Supine, looking at the grey sky Through a window pane just nearby, In the languid silence of the night With a half-moon lighting the sky, Myriads of stars shining bright My eyes are riveted up high Praying the Lord, my protector, To spare me a dreadful spectre. My thoughts ascend to heaven Where many noble souls do rest And deep down my mind I reckon For me to be divinely blest, To the Lord I need make a plea To attain a heavenly lea. Now the chest seemed to burst with pains And the heart to be blown apart; Prayers of my spouse were in vain: Worn out with woe, pulse of my heart Wavered and then dropped to a low As the winds whispered in a flow. In the dim darkness of the night, With pearly drops dripping from eyes My spouse called out for help upright To alleviate my painful sighs; With some pills I was lulled to rest As in my state I could n`t protest. I closed my eyes to the surrounds And in silence hummed the Lord`s name For hours and hours around, With my inner eyes set on His fame, The moon, stars and the galaxy Under His sole supremacy. The winds seemed to wrap in their wings My prayers, my pains and my woes, Haul them to the sky with their strings And share with the Lord my sorrow As signs of solidarity, As tokens of fraternity. When I lightly opened my eyes Through the spick and span window panes I could again gaze at the sky, Stars retiring and on the wane With glimmers of the orb of day Shooting at the sky with its ray. With the pains slightly ebbing down, From the very depth of my heart I thanked the Lord without a frown For showering grace on His part That afresh I`d stare at the sky Ere for good I would bid goodbye. Now my eyes shy of sun at morn And stunned by the shine of the sky Quite wished the curtains to be drawn That my soul could anew fly high, My body and mind rest again And my ears greet the winds` refrain.
