Now the heavenly orb is draped With a shroud of dark grey up high, The horizon narrowed in shape And tears set to drip from the sky. Soon it starts to rain from first dawn, It rains in the village and fields It rains in gardens and on lawns It rains on the mount and the hills. It rains on streets and narrow lanes, It rains heavily and smoothly, It rains on buildings and door panes And it rains intermittently. The rain splashes against windscreens Clatters on roof top of towers Bends branches, plants and wild greens And drenches the blooming flowers. It washes dust on village roads Forms puddles in vicinities Drifts to river beds leafy loads And sweeps streets of towns and cities. For many a folk, summer rain Is like a thick thorn on their toes Which they wish to repel in vain And treat like a far foreign foe, Others relish the summer rain To stay indoors and greet their tongue With some hot drinks or quench their veins And wish their sweet day to prolong. For me rain hums a charming chant On leaves and lawns in the garden Satiates earth, nourishes plants And diffuses new spirit in men. The music of gentle rain at night Is to me like a sweet invite To reach the deepest inner light Of my soul, ever shining bright. It prompts me on life to ponder, Kindles my quest for the divine, Melts barriers of time asunder And steers me to space that`s sublime. Let the mild summer rain at night Hum its music on nearby trees, Ignite my inner self`s delight And from stinging stress set me free.
