Sitting On Shoulders
I know everybody’s done it when they’re around a small baby, your pick them way up in the air, make your shoulders into a seat. It usually gets a small squeal from an excited boy or girl, we make them feel like ‘big’ people, and help them glimpse the wider world. They wrap their arms around your head, or ball tiny fists in your hair, see the world from another view when they’re perched safely up there. Sometimes they just ride quietly, quit content with the path you take, other times they try to dive off, seeking to make a quick escape, not realizing the injury they would sustain from such a move, and even if they did get down it wouldn’t end anywhere good. For what does a small toddler know about the real dangers in life? That’s why, when they get lifted high, you have to hold on extra tight. But as I ponder on these things a unique thought occurs to me, does God put us on His shoulders to help us glimpse eternity? …He does like to be called Father.
