Odd Sock
Strewn on a beach Threads exposed Elastic challenged by extremes But vibrant and undefeated For it was only Spring So far it had only ever known being wanted From the excitement of the designer To the machinery operator's efficiency Perfectly paired High end packaging Sitting for the shortest time 'on the shelf' No name though - why was that? But yes, a favourite Chosen first, washed with non biological Dried on the line, pegged up proudly Until the day of sandy toes, distractions and chaos Buried. With no eyes there was no way of knowing Feelings were dampened Sensations became heavy and cold The time that passed was the longest of lonely But this was a blip, no reason to fixate There was usually no time to think Now it was all thinking time Like a loop of mathematical misunderstandings Why was I loved? I was bright, new, well packaged What is the norm? Being loved and wanted It only knew repeating patterns Beautiful repeating patterns Time passed, new patterns Still beautiful Lit by the moon with the sea visiting Becoming shelter for others that snuggled in Wear and tear a realisation for any reality Then came the day it was 'picked' Placed in packaging again! The warmth of plastic Then the despair of how days end New patterns, no visitors, unpleasant smells Lasting loneliness No more safe handling Fortune fades As does fabric There's always the next life
