A Day at the Auction
A Day at The Auction (Silly word play) Gathered a well known assortment of undesirables, Who came to View an eclectic array of collectables, Searching through others unwanted respectables, Old and Young weak and strong some spectacled. Preying on the novices the unwise and susceptible, Each trying to find something valuable but affordable, In the corner hides an expensive Chinese receptacle, We in the know agreed it was the most desirable,. And between us we would spilt the profits if Agreeable. The auctioneer an old hand fitzherbert McGonagall, On the rostrum his quips quite dry but enjoyable, The ladies drooled and swooned, thought him adorable, While grumpy old men like me saw him as deplorable. The asking price for the vase was simply astronomical, Had he discovered our plan, it was just inconceivable, Not one of us raised a hand to make it more believable, The vase within our grasps, our goal was achievable. The price went lower and lower until it reached nominal, A little girl shouted yes please which was comical, Sold for £5 said McGonagall, well we were left certifiable. It so happened to be his daughter, not very honourable Ten thousand pounds it was worth it was simply horrible. We had been twigged, only for my tears, it was laughable .
