Terror Bugs: Part 2 - A Freezer Mice Adventure
[Continued from ‘Terror Bugs: Part 1 - A Freezer Mice Adventure’] __________ Three man sized ‘mice’ and Stanley Dann stood gawping at the screens Churchill muttered, “I don’t want to tell you what this means.” Crocket shook his head and said, “I can’t believe they’re here, And Cody said, “We thought they’d burned up in your atmosphere.’ Stanley Dann observed his three companions and he said, “Are you not the Freezer Mice? What are these things you dread?” Churchill said, “A walking nightmare - worse when they have fed, But blast a laser through their brain… you still won’t see one dead.” Cody tapped a monitor. “They live to breed and feed, And slaughter is their only means to sate their every need They seem beyond destruction so we lock them up in chains For they go briefly torpid when we laser beam their brains.” Crocket turned to Stanley’s cousin. “You should leave this place.” He pointed to a close up image of an awful face It glared into a camera as though it could trace their fear “They won’t be long, we must be gone; those creatures know we’re here.” “Listen Doc,” said Cody, “we must supercharge our powers, Get us to our freezer and we’ll chill for several hours. Those Terror Bugs will be here rather sooner than you think If we’re to stand an Earthly chance, for now, we have to shrink.” Those mis-named shrews clicked fingers and became as small as mice It’s what they do in order to re-energise in ice Stanley scooped them up and took them to his waiting car Their strength would reach its peak at home… if they could get that far Stanley raised his voice above the engine’s manic roar. “Why minimise so soon?” he asked a shoebox on the floor *** Churchill said, “We’re saving our reserves for what’s in store, For we could cryo-charge all day, but still we may need more.” As they reached the garage of the house in which they hide A splodge of something sticky landed on the car’s outside It fizzed and melted metal til the engine was exposed ‘Acid rain’ was not the first thing Stanley Dann supposed Cody said, “The Terror Bugs have sent a forward scout For if they had arrived en masse we’d need our brollies out These Terror Bugs secrete at will a highly caustic sweat It drips from every claw or they can spit an acid jet “I fear two hours ‘chilling out’ may be too much to ask But give us all the time you can so we can face our task.” Stanley took his friends inside and forced a little smile And prayed the Terror Bugs would not come by for quite a while The passing of three hours saw the Freezer Mice stood proud Crocket was the one who spoke their one shared thought aloud, “Why have the Terror Bugs not come to do their very worst?” Stanley said, “It’s breaking news… they took on London first!” “But,” said Cody, “that would mean they simply passed us by Yet they could sense our aura from a mile up in the sky Bypassing us for any reason ain’t what they’re about So London should have waited til they spat our giblets out.” Stanley Dann turned up the TV. “Everybody, look!” The carnage on the TV juddered as the camera shook People ran and people froze and people tried to hide And Churchill said to Stanley, “Doc, we’re gonna need a ride.” __________ [Continued in ‘Terror Bugs: Part 3 - A Freezer Mice Adventure’]
