We'll Make A Summer Man Out Of You Yet, Kid
Was it worth all the sleepless nights? Days spent hunched over a computer All to earn the right to hunch over a computer But for wages that'd make a mute man sing DST hit like a party drug As spring's first brave breezes tore trees asunder What should be the second hour of the night Instead paints the sky in the clearest blue How would you have felt last week? Same nine to five meant you'd have never seen the sun Would you have laughed so freely Without dearest Sol kissing your cheeks so sweetly? We'll make a summer man out of you yet, winter boy The world you remembered, begged for, cried for Died the second you walked away from it Older men became old men, and the old guard followed The strongest roots feed the baby branches well Feasting on apples on the shoulders of giants You save the day for old heroes Who were already old before you were born She once told me "it'll happen if it's meant to be." So was this meant to be? Three boats and a helicopter later, I remain unsure God helps those who help themselves He once told me "a real man makes his own luck." Yet the apples on which I feast were a group effort Soil, water, seeds and time And the trillions of cells that united to make Me Hot in the winter and frostbitten in the summer Roll up your sleeves and put on your sneakers Shake off the DVT and face the sun We'll make a summer man out of you yet, winter boy
