Only exceptions: Licenses issued to registered farmers for the ownership of a rifle, to an owner that can show proof of purchase of a lockable metal case to house the rifle and ammunition. The other exception, sporting shooters sports club members where their club is willing to take full responsibility for the firearms of its members, Not to be taken off the premises of the club, and locked in a secure vault when not in use. It has made a vast difference to the peace of mind of Australians, but it is fair to say that due to the falling off of stringent enforcement of the laws, illegal guns ( mostly handguns and rifles) are appearing in civilian possession again.
