'Til Her Last Breath
'Til Her Last Breath My grandmother always told me That "words don't have to be beautiful To be powerful". But to me , hers were both. As a young frightened boy of eight I would listen from the hallways, The bedroom door unlocked, ajar , And what a happy space that was As my less than polite grandmother Spoke in a voice never heard before. She would laugh like an excited schoolgirl, Whispering what tomorrow may bring. She would reminisce of better times, And regale in their lives treasured past. No child could have wished for more. For within my new, walled-in heaven, Behind this facade,, I was loved, adored . I would hear the sound of a gentle kiss, Her saying "Goodnight my love, I love you more". And every night asleep she would do the same. As she called out my grandfather's name Ten years now since the love of her life died But still, from her sleep she calls out his name and Whispers " I love you, James", 'til her last breath . The door to my heaven, now firmly closed to me, But the memory of her lives on in my dreams, As I whisper in prayers "I love you Grandma". Our lives, forever connected by loves single thread. And for eternity I will love you Grandma 'til my last breath. For Julia ( Grandma ) Always in my heart and thoughts x
