Have You Forgotten Me
It's been years since we walked away from each other. Long ago, I stopped looking back because I was afraid that I'll not see your footprints following behind me. Each time I dared turn my head; they'd faded a bit more. With every hesitant step I've taken, I've wondered... have I become nothing more than a pale phantom to you. A memory, a ghost, who disappeared from view. Do you no longer remember me; my name did you forget? Or have you missed me and feel grievous sorrow and regret? Maybe by now I'm just a delusion carried along on the wind. Traces of you will always cling to me, a scent undenied and in tears I cried, like raindrops falling from brooding clouds. If afternoon showers could cleanse me of loving you, I'd call out to the thunder god for a rage-filled storm. My heart has never forgiven me for walking away from you. I feel it beat more quickly on those dark and dreary days when I think I hear your footfalls catching up to me. I dare not turn around for fear of what I would not see.
