There Is A Darkness
*On the subject of Visual Exposure versus Narrative Coherence: "The difference between suspense and surprise is to give the audience some lead then leave the rest to their imagination," ... by Alfred Hitchcock. KEY: A: Colchester Tours Agent T: Tourist ______________________________________________________________ (a woman tourist vaguely sees in a matter of seconds what appears to be a floating apparatus through a small hole in the wall with a hanging veil) T: Now tell me, tell me, what do you see? T: With your very two eyes, please, tell me. A: I do not see a thing, nope, nothing at all. A: Not a thing to be seen, nothing substantial. T: With that hole in the wall, tho' a bit small. T: You see nothing, nothing, nothing at all. T: Are you quite blind T: to what comes from behind? T: From this room's light T: should shine thru' and delight! A: Yet I'm so sorry folks, A: indeed, I made no jokes. A: There's not a thing that I can see, A: just total darkness endlessly. A: I must say, that there's an eeriness that is truly troubling, A: That yon that veil midst the darkness what would cause all that rippling. A: I must put an end to this curiosity, A: for I am without a cat that will set me free. A: All I need A: is a lead A: that will put an end to this mystery, A: and gladly end this curiosity. A: At last, there is a clue, A: Tho it's long overdue. A: I can see the end of the darkness, A: and it's nothing strange nor eeriness. A: I can see what causes the veil's rippling, A: and there's not a thing, at all, that's troubling. A: For at the end of the darkness, there's something white, A: ... and that is why, folks, that I can see without light. A: Whiteness at the end caused me to see the veils rippling. A: 'Twas nothing more than the wind that caused all its waving. A: So as there was nothing scary and there was no spook. A: So let us all be merry as we did have a look. A: So let's enjoy the rest of our tour, --people. (mumblings of uncertainties continue) ______________________________________________________________ A: (speaking to an apparition) "Say what?" A: "There's a small tear in the veil?" A: "Mayhaps, we should be a bit careful with our bony fingers, my dear." A: (whispering) "Once again, it's called 'Paranormal'." A: "I've found the tour business to be more enterprising, --than teaching." A: "You've outdone yourself, once again, my dear, --Lenore!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A: "Pass my regards, Edgar!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
