Can We Say, Science Fiction Anymore?
Scientists have grown an entity that closely resembles an early human embryo, without using sperm, eggs or a womb. The Weizmann Institute team say their "embryo model", made using stem cells, looks like a textbook example of a real 14-ay-old embryo. It even released hormones that turned a pregnancy test positive in the lab. Can we say, “science fiction” anymore? Can we say, ‘nuclear fission gave great power?’ Can we say, ‘Einstein’s scientific eyes would still glow”?’ Can we say, ‘they have license to form life?’ Those star war, old world visions of the humanoids, from Godless galaxies, we could accept, with laughter at their strange, grotesque appearance. Now look upon the new formed entity. No fiction in the facts of procreation. No fiction in this petri dish consumption. No fiction in an embryo without seed. No fiction when the scientist plays Creator. How close they’ve come to chopping down, the sacred Tree of Life, slaying the guarding cherubin that holds the flaming sword, to create a Shelly model, a Frankenstein humanoid. Can we say, "you are the “spit of your Father's eye?" Can we say in the final words, “God gives. God takes away.” Can we say, “You were conceived because two loved.” Can we say, “science fiction” anymore?
