Was it Worth the Ride
He wasted his whole life away, tryin’ to make that gumbo pay, sweatin’ neath a burning Missouri sun. I heard him tell me every day, son if you just work hard and pray, then those good times is surely gonna come. With the passing of all those years, after all the blood, sweat and tears, he would still get down on his knees and pray. Thank you, Lord, for all that you give, and for allowing me to live, to enjoy that sunrise just one more day. Chorus: No matter how many times you’ve had to cry, No matter how many years have passed you by, The time from birth to grave goes way to fast. No matter how many times you beg or pray, No matter how many times you ask to stay, You know life is a thing that just won’t last. I walked with him through thick and thin. never once thought of giving in, even after that day my grandpa died. He told me, son after I’m gone, you and your sons will still live on, and in their fond memories, so will I. And just before he passed away, was one last thing he had to say, he looked at me with his eyes full of pride. I’d live this life over again, even knowing how it will end, I can tell you son, it was worth the ride. Repeat Chorus: But I can tell you son, it was worth the ride.
