'The rise and fall of the eyelids' I wrote last night As I pondered whether sleep would help But sleep felt like wakefulness And my moments of peace - too shallow So I'm drowning in the shallows Because I won't flail my arms I'm too ashamed that it's me Not putting my feet down Too tired now to know up from down I don't even know if drowning is Just how breathing feels Each capital letter the moment I breathe just enough To consider One deep breath That gets my feet moving Or my voice shouting I just met disapproval The words were 'are you ok?' As I held my phone typing this... Inwardly gasping for air Outwardly watching his eyes As soon as I got in I cried The dog did an amazing leap onto my knee I've cancelled my meetings without notice Because I need a moment to think
