Creatively Communicating
Poets, writers, artists, and photographers share a similar challenge; we all constantly must deal with getting the perfect exposure---that balance of light and darkness that creates harmony and clarity in our presentation. Ambiguity is brought into focus, transformed into understanding, or even internalized by correctly contrasting the dark and light colors or sides of our presentation. When thinking about the necessity of dualities in a poem, a story, a painting, or a photograph; I can’t help but think of the necessity of loneliness to fully feel love, the feelings of rejection and defeat needed to properly appreciate success, or the presence of clearly stated detail to bring focus, purpose, and clarity to our work. I ask myself and you: what good is it to write a poem, an article, paint a picture, or take a photograph, if all we do is create a piece of work that is filled with ambiguity, vagueness, and illegitimacy? Instead, we must hone our skills, persevere, and create that which --- when observed or read by our audience---- is focused, clear, and an authentic revelation of our thoughts, feelings, and awareness of our subject. Let’s make sure our audiences are neither blinded by the light nor left in the darkness; but instead, allow them to experience a sense of true communication.
