Happy Birthday Dear Mother
I close my eyes for one second and suddenly I'm home again, next to you and dad You were born on Christmas Eve, just like the babe of Bethlehem ... Laughter peels the faded kitchen paper as you pull out a tin pan full of hot steaming lasagna "Get the birthday cake from the garage, Vienna" is what you said to me, it came as no surprise, you knew all the hiding places of our home and hearts. Happy Birthday dear mother. I miss you more than, the sun, moon, and stars * Today when I see what Christmas has become, I know the only way to recall it properly, is through your eyes. Little legs running down the stairs, dampness of cold brick, taste of fermented wine, feel of a silky cake box holding a dream, this is what I recall, this liquid memory is tighter than Fort Knox.
