Written 22 December 2023 Forgiveness Poetry Contest Sponsored by Robert James Langouri Forgiveness Many a time I`ve been hurled down a ditch Whence coming out was just a real feat When to survive, my life I had to switch When to be alive, my pacy heartbeats I had to bridle, my tears to wipe And my saddening sorrows to swipe; But I did let it go, just let it go And the winds of torments just did forgo. Many a time I`ve been stabbed in the back By friendly hands who did bear me a grudge, Who out of jealousy, shame did not lack To push me down a stinking sludge; Yet in pin drop silence, I bore the pains Not allowing them to make my life vain, But forgiving them and forgiving them, Trusting the Lord in time to make amends. As the plum of the cake of wrong doings And to set the treacherous songs going I was forced to resign from duty As head of the finance ministry, Not due to absence of capacity But to plug in a collegial pinion Of the new incoming authority, Though deemed unfair in public opinion. Yet I let it go again and again Without trying to knock my head in vain Ascribing it to wheel of destiny And predetermined by the Trinity; While forgiving all the wrongs to me done I laid them at the shrine of the divine Who wisely yields props of justice alone And makes final judgment that is sublime, Forgiveness like a double-edged mirror Lightens the heart of the sinner And brightens the mind of the forgiver Just like a bright light shining in summer Confers to love and good will its splendour Removes stains with a deep stinking odour: Inflicting wrongs on someone is human Forgiving such wrongs is divine in man. Let us like the Lord`s only Son, Who during the sweet spring season, Nailed on the cross from head to toes In midst of pensive pains of woes With the heart of a divine dove And warming whispers of true love Did forgive all the sinful hands Who nailed a Divine living Man.
