It’s impossible to fathom What this really means. We’ve spoken before And it was clear You wouldn’t act on If it meant leading me along. Still, you kiss me As if it’s nothing for you. It took a while To shake you From every corner of my mind And now you Just let yourself in. It seems I forgot To lock the front door. Even if I recalled, You’d have weaseled your way in. It’s not that I have A problem with you. In fact, kissing you Is one of the best pass times. It’s the effect Your actions have on me That you don’t consider Because you’re not aware. How could you be When I don’t speak it aloud? The moment you choose To cross the line And press me to you, It becomes impossibly difficult To get you out the door. You sit center stage, Spotlight on you, Smiling and waving Without a care in the world. You stay past curfew And you overstay your welcome. I try to say goodbye But it takes days at a time. The effects of your kiss Linger like a shadow. It sticks to my brain Like a note taped to the fridge. I cannot forget This moment we’ve had Even if it means nothing. I don’t mind not forgetting, In fact I relive it Until the ache in my chest Fades to a dull pinch. When that happens, I know I am free From the stuck record playing In my memory lane.
