Why can't people let me be So I can raise my family In the way that I see fit I don't like being told one bit How I am not letting them Grow up--- just protecting them Not letting my children grow And be free, but they don't know Why I'm keeping them so close It's my heart and theirs that chose To stay together for a while Until they reach a special mile Stone in their lives and want to go Until then I'm gonna show How much they both mean to me I'm not acting selfishly Like people are always saying I have had it and not playing They can talk and criticize And keep asking me the "whys" Of how I'm letting them stay Not letting them go their own way Into the world and grow up Will everyone please shut u[ There are special reasons why They are not ready to fly Even thought they are "adults" I'm not gonna kick them out Until they are really ready And be strong, solid, and steady On their own and fly away But until that fateful day They're welcome to stay as long As they want, it is not wrong For me to give all my love To my babies-I wont shove Them into a world where they are scared Because they were so unprepared To find a nest of their own They will never be alone
