Lunch is always wilted and stale. Lunch is always bustling. With people who chatter. Some people are hurrying to finish. Some people have food in their teeth, and they laugh. I focus on the chewing. Chewing, and it’s loud and disgusting the other people in the cafeteria. That’s why they’re in groups, to laugh at me. Laughter that’s discordant, Laughter that sounds like it’s marching toward me, if I close my eyes and focus. All I’m doing is chewing, just like everyone else. But still, I sit alone.
