Clutching the moment Before yesterday became yesterday, The promise, Before he pledged his love to me, The colors, Before autumn waltzed away, Swaying in shadows of soft snowfall, Breathing white, plunging into the thought, A blizzard erasing the gentle flames, Sheltered by November skies, Sighing beneath laughing starlight. Stuffing darkness beneath a blanket, Drifting to sleep on the edge of a touch, Who kissed my heart the way dew trembles, Caressing the rose, shimmering In the temptation of a full moon, one who Loses its doubt, believing – there is a way out, A way out of the pain, powerful As a summer rain whose strength comes From the gentlest sense of hope, Ever after, praising love who knows Despite the darkest heart of winter, a song Returns dreams to their owners, Serene like the wind, always blowing, Seeking grace in the air that sends chills, The same air that lingers to bless away the tears. Grappling with the twinge of grief, despair… Melancholy bleeding, like relief, Floating on the winds of chance, changing Like the soul who knows the release From noisy, prideful lust – the relief From gratings on the nerves, Temptations vexing, straining to erase… Dwindling hues of tired blueberry skies, Despondent as the starving dreams Of those who feel sadness sing, Like a whisper or a sigh, suffering Always suffering – erasing even the shine Glimpsed by the eyes who see a moon, Quietly reflecting the fortunes Stars blending into the heavens, Shimmering like the glitter perfect Christmas. Dazzling as the notes of bliss, Hesitating before it sings a melody, Notes glistening on the hearts of hearers, Those who hearken, never fearing, This is harmony that only God could have sent, Across the nights, through the edges of a quiet Autumn and a sunless winter sunset, Through the mists burying the seeking servants, The mindlessness of boyhood, the sensitivity Of a heart who stood, even though others Believed it to be broken beyond healing, cracked… So that the pieces of tender light Could never fall through the glimpses of fractured stillness, Glimpses of hope, faith and love who listens, Believing – yes believing, when everywhere – there is doubt, Skepticism, hesitant and suspicious, quivering In the stone-cold hardness of a heart who has been shattered. Wrecked by the careless places, the darkness, A nocturnal grace – echoing in the shadows, Rearranging the webs staggered over the limbs, balanced, By the crisp leaves, the brittle freshness of an acorn, The abundance of treasures, like a harvest sanctification, Dreading starlight’s glossy breath, soothing Beneath a moment when hope happened, restoring the moment, A moment of light, free and flashing a smile… More powerful than the song, Gripping the soul so that it knows, Always knows… Yes, oh yes… yesterday is gone and finally, The heart can move on, finally… The break has sought solace in the promise of second chances, New life, new light, new love – fresh as the spring, And more abundant than the tears who sprang like dew, Over the life silenced by hurt, the life stifled… By a heartbreak who didn’t know it would grow a soul, Yes, oh yes… it would not destroy the way it had intended. Instead, the heart would grow more beautiful, gentler, More like the One who heals, the love that stills… Every doubt, every sorrow, every inkling of dreaded darkness. Yes, oh yes… because, even in the heartbreak’s mess, There is light falling through the pauses, light… Meant to grow a new thought, a new hope, a new faith… A new that can only be placed by the hand of the ONE who made us… To know love in all its measures – nothing less than love Could feed us the nourishment needed to grow souls worthwhile, Souls led by the love that creates, designs, embraces… Natures brought to life by the One who knows us, heart, soul and spirit… Shimmering in eyes who can finally see!
