July 4th - St Pete's Beach
July 4th - St Pete’s Beach Today is the 4th day of July, so we go. The early morning sand is still cool, And the beach is shaking off slumber. We can see the long pristine shoreline, Curved and endless, ebbing and flowing. By mid-morning, large crowds descend, And soon enough the open beach fills up. We are all the same, everything around us, Smaller pieces fitting together as a whole, And it all made sense, as a new day woke. Before us, lay the languid Gulf of Mexico, Calm waters, tinted hues of blue and green, And glimmering softly in the days new light. A blanket of beauty to our western horizon, As far as we can see, until water touches sky. To our east, the late morning sun rose high, And the scenery conspired to keep us here, The frolicking swimmers and muted music, The grand hotels, etched against a blue sky, And rows on rows of puffy yellow cabanas. We walk along with life teeming all around, Taking in the full bounty being bestowed us, And, in a slow turning world, it comes clear, All the people, all of nature, and all of today, All captured and caught, in one brief moment.
