The Last Organ Grinder
The Last Organ Grinder Remembrances of so many days gone by, Living and reliving the old bygone ways, Moments of youth, lost and gone forever, Swept away in a million hazy yesterdays. Always piling memories on memories, In a dusty dreamlike never-never land. Keeping it all alive, in life’s old closet, Your aged hourglass, all dust and sand. Still marching days backward thru time, Wandering in some real imagined past, Eyes, swollen and blurred from wanting, As if steadfast hope will make it all last. But what of a tattered past better forgotten, And memories that sting like poison darts, A past never to be given light in this world, And stricken forever from tongues and hearts. As it always must be, the past is gone forever, And all of time run out, can only lead to now, And people get old, with deep weathered lines, That settle heavy on a sorrowed, somber brow.
