Dear Society
Stay happy Be happy That’s what I want That’s what everyone wants But I don’t know If I deserve that If I ever deserved that If I ever will deserve that We’re born with an understanding that We’re not enough We have to earn enough We have to fight for it We have to fight for life What if I get tired of constantly fighting Of earning enough Of not inherently being enough Of inheriting the deep knowing that we are not enough Of climbing and sprinting and facing the waves with their jagged and twisted faces Of screaming into my pillow and still not feeling loud enough Of feeling muffled, muted, quieted And I keep counting my footsteps Scared that I’ll manage to walk off a cliff Counting and cowering and crying And I just want to scream Ugly and wretched I want you to hear everything ugly and Wretched and disgusting That has been trapped That needs to be heard I wish you weren’t scared of the unknown Scared of what you have created Scared of what you have done to us What you have done to me
