Then and Now
Through the corridors of time we all struggle to reach our goal, To push our limits in order to gain a little self control. There are always hurdles that test our grit, To see if we are strong enough for the challenge or to see if we will submit. For sixty one years I’ve blazed my own trail, And in my younger days I was as tough as any nail. I never backed up I took what ever life would bring, And I doubt I hardly ever said thank you to anyone for anything. Money was good but it wouldn’t buy the life that I had needed, And in the back ground prayers were going up, to God they begged and they pleaded. Lord he is such a good man but he just doesn’t realize and doubtful he even knows, That his life he is wasting and when it’s all over he’ll have nothing left to show. I drank enough beer to float a battleship and I could cuss with the best, These were my credentials and I wanted to be number one, I viewed it like some kind of test. I couldn’t get drunk enough to not know that something in my life was wrong, Then one day I took a good look at myself and realized maybe I’ve waited a little too long. I think God knew I was ready cause it happened oh so quick, It still amazes me, like a lost sheep that had been found I never put up a kick. The old days are dead they’re buried and gone, And each day I am ready, with Jesus by my side to face the new dawn
