So This Is How It Ends
So This is How It Ends: I stare at you You stare back coldly at me I study the lines on your face And I watch this house slowly empty out One piece of furniture at a time Fifteen years wiped away in one day All that remain are the memories Only the objects are materialistic How did we get to this point No, I know how this happened If you feel inclined to ask I have so much that I didn’t say before So this is how it ends Piece by piece, one by one This is what breaks down when one person doesn’t fix What has been broken for many years Wearing blinders was your tragedy This is how it ends I don’t want to stand here and cry I shed my tears a long time ago These walls once filled with pictures of our kids Are blank and empty now All that is left are nails and dust I used to hear laughter down the halls Now I just hear eerie silence I sit on the floor and feel the breeze come through the open window Chilling me to the bone You look helplessly at me Showing all your emotions through your eyes You were too blind to see this As you turn away from me and walk out the door I watch your image fade out of view Maybe perhaps we shall meet again In a different time In a different place Our world together did not last But our world apart will see clearly This is what happens when a love breaks down, and is neglected So this is how it ends my dear
