Bully
We fight this battle time and time again But there is no winner nor an end in sight Because you see, This is a fruitless fight Leaving the damaged to float away at night Because they don’t see an end in sight either… And you don’t have to believe her, When she says she’s fine Because ‘Fine’ is just another way to say, Her world is falling apart And those hurtful crass words broke her heart You fling insults like a pitcher on a mound Chasing him down the hall, Like a thirsty bloodhound Embarrassment seems to satisfy your thirst So you show him your Ugly, You show him your Worst Sticks and stones may break my phones But don’t you dare say words can’t hurt me! Because, Don’t you see? Those are the lies we use when others are abused But we dare not speak up, For fear of enduring the same If a witness stays silent, Who is to blame? If a tree falls but everyone refuses to hear Do they still have a name? Or are they just another shadow fading into the backdrop of school We comfort ourselves by saying “Oh, well kids can be so cruel!” But we leave it at that, Slowly turn our back And walk away instead… Washing our hands of the dying, dying dead You see he was different, Didn’t fit into a clique Was homeschooled most of his life, And always got sick So you decided to take advantage of it A few bruises and a black eye escalated into notes Telling him to die, That boys aren’t meant to cry That Men are made of concrete and valor And your harsh words made him cower And he became the victim of the hour And She, She didn’t fit your definition of pretty or popular And it just didn’t matter that she was smart And already had enough weighing down her heart Name calling was just the start She didn’t bring home any bruises, Or evidence of her pain But she bore the punishment each time you called her a name Alone crying, Mascara trailing rivers down her face And she did finally start to believe she was a disgrace… You see being a bully isn’t cool, isn’t smart, isn’t hip Frankly it’s down right stupid, Yet we see it every day And instead of helping walk away Because if you aren’t dishing it out, You aren’t doing anything wrong… Right?
