Give Me the Sky
Give me the sky with its blue and grey with its sun and moon birds and planes Give me the sky when it pours heavily on desert's scorched earth creating thick mud-flooded valleys Give me the sky lying face-up on the grass in front of our track home a child gazing upward with hope Give me the sky instead of the office workplace "cubicle city" I called it all of us yearning for the sun "Give me the sky" thought Icarus, but flew close he had clearly attained the sky but greedily wanted the sun Give me the sky the open sky that stretches broadly on each side of me as we cross border after border Give me the sky of the open-air market where we speak of sprouts and scones with people we really don't know Give me the sky with darkness and pinhole stars stretching out to infinity a concept we'll never understand Give me the sky of Canada, Spain, Ireland, Maryland, Texas, Colorado every sky different in its own way Give me the sky always present whether we see it or not like memories of loved ones whether we see them or not Give me the sky its invisible, warm blanket protecting us from solar heat but we damage it anyway Give me the sky, the sea, the mountains the deserts, the creeks and give me the wisdom to protect it Give me the sky its vast expanse full of possibilities if we'll only notice. Please give me the sky
