Yawning Gulf
Written: August 08, 2023, For Pick-A-Title, Vol 38 - Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Edward Ibeh __________________________________________________________ Life is too short, and the time we waste in yawning never can be regained. Quote By Stendhal In the Yawning Gulf of the human soul. Where riches and poverty both claim a toll, There lived a man—with an earnest desire. To reach the heights—to which he aspires. In the depths of his meditation—he found. A predilection for silence—a peace so profound. He sought to bear witness to the darkness inside. To explore Lilliputian fowls of his own hidden tide. But alas, his existence resides. In the valley of the shadows—where hope subsides. Peace eludes my remembrance. Delight—a forgotten semblance. With each step—I'll bridge the divide. No longer trapped in the valley, I'll reside. In surrender embrace, I'll find the key. To unlock the door to serenity. Yet, in this dark abyss—I cognize inside. That a swing of the pendulum will guide. My face and fate toward the light. A dance of surrender, shining bright. I shall merge with my dreamboat. Toward the shore of my reality remote. In this waltz of surrender —a cosmic affair. As dreams and reality intertwine—rare. With each step he took—fissures grew wide. Gulches so deep, the sullen surf beat inside. The steep sides of his soul echoed with a roar. A chasm so vast —it seemed to swallow the core. He wrapped himself in a shroud of introspection. Stalwart to unravel—mysteries of his own reflection. But as he delved deeper into his own abyss. He felt the weight of his longing—his aim amiss. The harder he gazed whenever he found. That the gulf within him had no solid ground. As a collapsing metaphor—his soul began to fall. Into the abyss of his own inner call. Gazed up at stars, planets, and the cosmos above. And wondered if his journey was guided by love. For in the vast expanse of the universe's scheme. He questioned his place, his purpose, his dream. Was he just a speck, a mere flicker of light? Lost in the vastness of the cosmic night? Was there anything further, a concept deep? That his soul, in its oneness, had yet to reap? He realized then, in his earnest meditation, That the answer lay not in seeking validation. For it was not riches or poverty he desire, But a connection—to something higher.
