Wishes
It’s something we’re taught early in life…from the time we’re one…or two-ish. Before we blow out the candles on our cake we’re told to close our eyes and make a wish. From that moment we learn there are a myriad of things in this world to wish upon… things like ladybugs and rainbows…wishing wells and leprechauns. When we throw a penny into a fountain…as we hold one end of a wishbone… on a falling leaf before it hits the ground…on a single feather or a skipping stone. When we blow on dandelion seeds…on a horse (that must be white). with fingers crossed we wish on the moon…the clouds…on the first star we see at night. When I was but a child and my world was innocent and new behind all the toys I wished for was a secret wish to do what grown-ups do. When I became a grown-up…on every four-leaf clover…on every shooting star I’d wish for a world filled with peace and love and happiness… where people are accepted for who they are. It’s funny now that I am older I still hope for all my grown-up wishes to come true… but now…I also find myself secretly wishing… to do the things that children do.
